The scope of this standard is to describe the concepts, techniques and limitations of the Finite- Element method and to specif y models and procedures for validation and uncertainty assessment for the Finite-Element Method when used for determining the spatial-peak specific absorption rate (psSAR) in phantoms or anatomical models. It recommends and provides guidance on the modelling of wireless devices and provides benchmark data for the simulation the SAR in such phantoms or models. This standard does not recommend specific SAR limits since these are found elsewhere, e.g., in IEEE C95.1 [1] or in the guidelines published by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) [2]. NOTE – Cubical averaging volumes are applied in all current experimental standards for the assessment of psSAR and recommended by [1], [2] and [3]. Other averaging volumes have been proposed, e.g., in [2], and may be included in future revisions of this standard.
