This document provides guidance to the employers, users, purchasers or persons, who advise the employers, with respect to selection, use, care, and maintenance requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) used in work where there is the risk of exposure to an AC electric short circuit arc hazard. This document is in particular intended to provide guidance with respect to the answer to the question whether and when it is appropriate to select PPE: – which has been assessed or chosen for its arc protective performance in form of the arc rating determined according to test method Test Method 1, the open arc test method, i.e.,IEC 61482-1-1:2019 for clothing, IEC 62819/CD:2020-subclause 5.2.2 for eye-face- head protectors or IEC 63232-1-1/CD:2020 for gloves; or – which has been assessed or chosen for its arc protective performance in form of the arc protection class according to test method Test Method 2, the box-test method, .i.e., IEC 61482-1-2:2014 for clothing, IEC 62819/CD:2020-subclause 5.2.3 for eye-face-head protectors or IEC 63232-1-2/CD:2020 for gloves.
