This International Standard specifies the content, type, design, layout and usage of shipboard and marine installation plans to be available and displayed for fire control appliances and arrangements, damage control, life-saving appliances and arrangements, and means of escape. It also specifies graphical symbols and illustrations used in such plans. This International Standard is not intended to cover escape plans used as signs and mimics signs for general safety information. This revision of the ISO 17631 includes the IMO amendments to the IMO MSC.1/Circ.1245 Guidelines for damage control plans and information to the master and MSC.1/Circ.1570 Amendments to section 3 of the guidelines for damage control plans and information to the master.
