This document establishes requirements of adventure tourism for hiking and trekking activities, relating to participant’, leader’ and assistant’ safety. This document also establishes criteria referring to hiking and trekking routes’ classification as to their characteristics and severity. This document applies to hiking and trekking activities that are offered as tourism products. Tourism products design involves a product planning and development phase that is not subject to this document. Some tourism products include hiking and/or trekking activities together with other tourism services (such as transfers, meals, lodging), but this document applies only to hiking and trekking activities, the additional tourism services being excluded from the scope. This document is applicable to any kind of adventure tourism activity provider that offers tourism products consisting of hiking and/or trekking activities, which desires to: a) improve participant’s satisfaction and safety by effective application of this document, including safety control processes and product’s continuing improvement and conformity’s warranty with participants’ requirements and applicable regulatory requirements; b) demonstrate the product’s capacity in ensuring adventure tourism with hiking activities’ practice in a safe way and attend to participants’, leaders’ and other involved peoples’ safety requirements and applicable regulatory requirements; c) search for conformity assessment based in this document; or d) make a self-evaluation to check this document’s conformity.
