This International Standard provides a method for estimating minimum legible font size for alphanumeric letters, self-luminous or reflected mode, used in documents, products labels, visual signs, and displays for a person at any age and at any viewing condition in which viewing distance, luminance and contrast are varied. This International Standard applies designing and evaluating legibility of letters for a person at any age who has no pathological disorders in his/her eye. For those with low vision or partially sighted, this international standard does not apply. Applicability of the method to other languages is also given in Annex F.
