ISO 26262 is intended to be applied to safety-related systems that include one or more electrical and/or 71 electronic (E/E) systems and that are installed in series production road vehicles, excluding mopeds. 72 ISO 26262 does not address unique E/E systems in special vehicles such as E/E systems designed for 73 drivers with disabilities. 74 NOTE Other dedicated application-specific safety standards exist and may complement ISO 26262 or vice versa. 75 Systems and their components released for production, or systems and their components already under 76 development prior to the publication date of this edition of ISO 26262, are exempted from the scope of 77 this edition. For further development or alterations based on systems and their components released 78 for production prior to the publication of this edition of ISO 26262, only the modifications will be 79 developed in accordance with this edition of ISO 26262. This edition of ISO 26262 addresses integration 80 of existing systems not developed according to this edition of ISO 26262 and systems developed 81 according to this edition of ISO 26262 by tailoring the safety lifecycle. 82 ISO 26262 addresses possible hazards caused by malfunctioning behaviour of safety-related E/E 83 systems, including interaction of these systems. It does not address hazards related to electric shock, 84 fire, smoke, heat, radiation, toxicity, flammability, reactivity, corrosion, release of energy and similar 85 hazards, unless directly caused by malfunctioning behaviour of safety-related E/E systems.
