ISO 26262 is intended to be applied to safety-related systems that include one or more electrical and/or elec112 tronic (E/E) systems and that are installed in series production road vehicles, excluding mopeds. ISO 26262 does not address unique E/E systems in special vehicles such as E/E systems designed for drivers with disa114 bilities. NOTE – Other dedicated application-specif ic safety standards exist and may complement ISO 26262 or vice versa. Systems and their components released for production, or systems and their components already under de117 velopment prior to the publication date of this edition of ISO 26262, are exempted from the scope of this edi118 tion. For further development or alterations based on systems and their components released for production prior to the publication of this edition of ISO 26262, only the modifications will be developed in accordance with this edition of ISO 26262. This edition of ISO 26262 addresses integration of existing systems not devel121 oped according to this edition of ISO 26262 and systems developed according to this edition of ISO 26262 by tailoring the safety lifecycle. ISO 26262 addresses possible hazards caused by malfunctioning behaviour of safety-related E/E systems, including interaction of these systems. It does not address hazards related to electric shock, fi re, smoke, heat, radiation, toxicity, flammability, reactivity, corrosion, release of energy and similar hazards, unless directly caused by malfunctioning behaviour of safety-related E/E systems.
