This document introduces and describes the concept of the application programming interface to security devices with the intention to simplify the usage of commands and mechanisms defined by ISO/IEC 7816 series. This series of standards is intended to be used by application programmers of any sectors relying on the interchange defined by the ISO/IEC 7816 series but not limited. This International Standard gives guidelines about – the system overview and description of the system of the programming interface, – the architecture description, – the data model in general, used by the API, e.g. handles, arrays or serialization, – the use cases and the usage model of an API, – the description syntax.
