Introduction

For girders being part of a complex 2- or 3-dimensional structural system, Lhe «Rules for Classification of Steel Ships» (henceforth refered to as «the Rules») require a complete struclural analysis to be carried oul. The analysis is to show that the stresses will be acceptable when the structure is loaded in accordance with described design load conditions.

Any recognized calculation method or computer program may be applied, provided the effects of bending. shear, axial and torsional deformations arc considered when relevant.

Strength analysis carried out in accordance with the procedure outlined in this Note will normally be accepted as basis for class approval.

Computer programs offered by VERTAS are particulDrly suitable lor calculatio ns specified in this Note. These programs are ava ilable f'or external users al the head office computer centre and at <:0nnec Led terminals. The programs may be implemented on other computers after special agreement. On request VERITAS may carry out all the necessary calculations and analysis required as basis for approval.

The analysis is generally related to primary strength members amidships of roll on/ roll off ships and other ships without transverse bulkheads in the cargo region.
