Scope and application

This programme is applicable for the approval of material manufacturers of:

— extra high strength steel grades NV D47 and NV E47

— steel grades with verified BCA properties

— steel grades with verified CTOD properties of base material and CGHAZ (COD steels)

— steel grades with simultaneously verified BCA and CTOD properties (BCACOD steels)

as referred in the Society's rules and standards, e.g. DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.2 Ch.2 Sec.2 and DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.2 Ch.4 Sec.5.

This programme shall always be used in combination with the approval programs DNV-CP-0346 and DNV-CP-0243. It is applicable for the approval of manufacturers (AoM) of products given in Table 1.

The product(s) used for approval testing (see Sec.3) will place limitations on the range of approval. The approval will be limited to:

— each steel type group or material grade as indicated in App.A

— the corresponding application areas as given in Table 1

— manufacturing process including rolling parameters and heat treatment

— for BCA, COD and BCACOD grades; the manufacturer specification for the chemical composition, manufacturing process and production control, see Sec.2.

The approval is limited to the material grade for which approval tests are carried out, but certain grades may also cover other grades in the same steel type group, or the entire steel type group, as explained in App.A.

In case the specification for the chemical composition differs from the common specification given in DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.2 Ch.2 Sec.2 Table 10, the carbon equivalents Ceq and Pcm will be limited in the approval and shall not be exceeded for the production.

For COD steel grades C_eq and P_cm will in general be limited to qualified C_eq+0.03 and qualified P_cm+0.02.
