This document describes the specific requirements and the process for the Society's AOSS engaged in in-water cleaning of biofouling on a vessel's hull and/or niche areas. The general requirements and process for approval are described in DNV-CP-0484.

This document does not contain specific performance criteria for in-water cleaning and capture. Instead, the performance criteria for:

1) the efficiency of the cleaning process to remove micro- and/or macrofouling

2) the effectiveness of capturing removed debris

3) the effectiveness of the separation unit for removing captured debris.

of the selected in-water cleaning standard apply. In-water cleaning standards include, but are not limited to:

— IMO 2023 Guidelines for the Control and Management of Ships' Biofouling to Minimize the Transfer of Invasive Aquatic Species (MEPC.378(80)) and any guidance on matters relating to in-water cleaning to be developed by IMO.

— Industry standard on in-water cleaning with capture developed by BIMCO and the International Chamber of Shipping.
