The scope of this RP covers the provision of a framework for assuring simulation models throughout their lifecycle, depending on the risk from using a simulation model in a given use case.

This RP covers simulation models based on first principles as defined in Table 1-5. Data-driven models are not included in this RP, but in the separate DNV-RP-0510 Framework for assurance of data-driven algorithms and models.

The framework includes the following activities:

1) Risk evaluation of the application of the simulation model and identification of a required confidence level from this analysis.

2) Supplier assurance, where the maturity level of the model supplier is established and compared with the required confidence level. This procedure may be called process related.

3) Model assurance advocating product assurance of the model itself. Model assurance includes qualification of the conceptual model, verification of the simulation model and validation of the simulation model towards the reality, see Figure 2-1.

The recommended practice advocates re-use of component models. Such component models should be preassured.
