This RP provides guidance on system integration and software reliability challenges to support more reliable and safer vessel operations. It may be applied to different levels of the vessel hierarchy, from the vessel (system of systems), to systems (or sub-systems), interfaces, software components, and key parameters level. It covers the full life cycle of a vessel, from basic engineering (or requirements), engineering (or design), construction, acceptance (or commissioning), to operation (and maintenance) phases. It defines a set of checkpoints, with specific responsibilities for different roles.

This RP covers different kinds of software:

— basic software

— application software

— vessel specific configurations, including key parameters.

Sec.2 describes the life cycle processes, including phases, roles, systems under consideration, checkpoints, responsibilities.

Sec.3 defines the requirements for the different checkpoints, organized by different phases, levels and roles.

Sec.4 describes the various verification and certification options, including different levels of verification.

Sec.5 explains some possible use-cases for this RP.

Sec.6 introduces some possible new ways of collaboration based on the approaches described in this RP.
