Application

Unless explicitly provided otherwise, requirements of this chapter do not apply to:

- Ships of war and troopships

- Ships not propelled by mechanical means

- Wooden ships of primitive build

- Pleasure yachts not engaged in trade

- Fishing vessels

- Ships with class notationsCrew, Patrol, Yacht, Landing Craft or Light Craft.

This chapter is applicable for craft under the International Code of Safety for High-Speed Craft, i.e. passenger craft and cargo craft above 500 GT on international voyages.

This chapter is applicable for craft with service restrictionR0, R1 andR2 for the class notation Passenger, Car Ferry and Cargo.

Alternative requirements may be considered for service notationsR3, R4, R5 and R6 for the class notations Passenger, Car Ferry and Cargo.

The operational restrictions of the craft may be limited to the maximum sea states for which the life-saving appliances are certified.
