This Section specifies general requirements for manufacture, survey and certification of materials used for the construction or repair of hulls, equipment, boilers and pressure vessels and machinery of vessels classed or intended for classification by the Society. Appropriate specific requirements are given in Ch.2.
Materials which shall comply with these requirements are defined in the relevant design and construction parts of the rules.
Materials which comply with national or proprietary specifications may be accepted provided such specifications give reasonable equivalence to the requirements of Ch.2 or are otherwise specially approved. (The requirements complies with IACS UR W2)
