The present edition of the rules includes additions and amendments approved by the Board as of December 2009, and supersedes the July 2006 edition of the same chapter.
The rule changes come into force as indicated below.
This chapter is valid until superseded by a revised chapter. Supplements will not be issued except for an updated list of minor amendments and corrections presented in Pt.0 Ch.1 Sec.3. Pt.0 Ch.1 is normally revised in January and July each year.
Revised chapters will be forwarded to all subscribers to the rules. Buyers of reprints are advised to check the updated list of rule chapters printed in Pt.0 Ch.1 Sec.1 to ensure that the chapter is current
Main changes coming into force on 1 July 2010
• Sec. 1 General Requirements
— The BC Code (Code of Safe Practice for Solid Bulk Cargoes) name change to the IMSBC Code (International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes Code). This has been corrected wherever it's found necessary.
— C100: Some orthographical discrepancies corrected.
• Sec. 2 Requirements for carriage of dangerous goods in various types of cargo spaces
— B305: Requirements for electrical equipment in extended hazardous areas second item has been changed to: - be suitable for zone 2, see Pt.4 Ch.8 Sec.11 C200. — B401: Has been amended where reference is now given to requirements in DNV Statutory Interpretations.
— B703: Renamed as a “Guidance note” for medical oxygen.
— B1104: Valid for ammonium nitrates only. Neither top wing tanks, deep tanks nor side tanks intended for oil are allowed adjacent to cargo holds intended for ammonium nitrates.
— B1105: Changed to include all type of oil tanks adjacent to cargo holds.
— Table D1: New entry: Direct reduced iron (C) (by-product, fines) added.
— General: References to SOLAS Requirements, etc. made consistent throughout the section.
Corrections and Clarifications
In addition to the above stated rule requirements, a number of detected errors, corrections and clarifications have been made in the existing rule text.
