The present edition of the rules includes additions and amendments approved by the Executive Committee as of November 2010, and supersedes the July 2006 edition of the same chapter.
The rule changes come into force as indicated below.
This chapter is valid until superseded by a revised chapter.
Main changes coming into force 1 January 2011
• Sec.15 Additional Requirements for Certain Cargoes
— New installation of materials which contain asbestos will be prohibited by SOLAS II-1 Reg.3-5.2. Item C703, which allowed for some use of asbestos, is now replaced with new text totally prohibiting use of asbestos.
