This document covers the activities performed by a cargo operator on chemical tankers and identifies a base set of competencies. It aims to provide guidance for establishing a competence foundation, to be supplemented by e.g. operational/supplier manuals and system-specific details.

Operational scope and detailed knowledge, understanding and performance expectations are defined in Sec.3.

Application

This standard may be used in the following ways:

— as a reference to familiarize or assess people in the role of cargo operator

— as a reference for defining competence and training requirements

— as a guide to training providers that develop courses according to the requirements of the standard and the needs of the industry

— as a reference document for the certification of learning programmes or persons.

This standard specifies competence expectations to a more detailed level than requirements imposed by STCW, national/international legislation and guidance by industry organizations.
