DNV's scope of work
If requested, DNV may issue an EIAPP Certificate for a diesel engine that is to be installed on board a ship above 400 tons gross tonnage or on board a fixed or floating offshore platform or drilling rig.
Before issuing an EIAPP Certificate, DNV shall have collected documentation and verified compliance with the Code. Unless an engine of the particular model has been successfully tested earlier, an engine emission test shall be arranged and witnessed by DNV.
The request to issue an EIAPP Certificate must come from engine manufacturer/designer, shipyard or owner.
If requested DNV may issue EIAPP Certificates for engines regardless of class.
It is imperative that DNV, before the issuance of any EIAPP certificate, is authorised to do so on behalf of the Flag State which the vessel in question is going to fly.
DNV can, if it is not possible to obtain this authorisation, issue a DNV EIAPP Statement of Compliance for the engine stating that the requirements set in the Convention are fulfilled, but the engine manufacturer/shipyard or owner must be made aware that there is a risk that the DNV EIAPP Statement of compliance may not be accepted by the Flag State.
