General

The purpose of these requirements is to provide a certification service for the small craft industry; i.e. for commercial and recreational craft. 

The certification aims at providing an appropriate safety level for the relevant boat types for their intended application and design limitations. The technical and safety standards prescribed in these requirements are considered adequate for commercial and recreational cran with overall lengths in the approximate range 6 to 24 m and with maximum speeds from low speed up to 50+ knots. Craft with lengths and or maximum speed other than indicated may be certified upon special consideration. 

The certification services described in these requirements apply to newbuilding of craft. No services for the operational phase are provided. 104 Certification according to these requirements does not ensure compliance with possible mandatory national or international regulations
