This competence standard underpins the tasks performed by a Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) on any vessel equipped with Dynamic Positioning for the purpose of station-keeping. It intends to capture the most important competencies for DPOs, irrespective of type of vessel, trade or activity.

Station-keeping is defined as the sequence of manoeuvres that maintain a vessel in a predetermined position.

Competencies for DP operations other than station keeping are not part of the scope of this standard.
