Introduction 

Objective

This recommended practice (RP) describes a procedure for inspecting, testing and evaluating non-metallic seals used in service.

The objective of this RP is to improve equipment integrity through the correct seal and sealing material being selected for long-term no-leak service. The RP can further be used to optimize service intervals and life extensions by documented field experience.

It is recommended that experience gained is collected and shared among relevant stakeholders.

The non-metallic seals covered by this procedure are made from polymer materials of either thermoplastic or elastomer type.

This RP is intended to provide a systematic approach to the evaluation of non-metallic seals used in oilfield equipment.

Note:

This RP may also be used as a basis for evaluating non-metallic seals used in other types of equipment.
