This RP specifies the recommended requirements for low voltage (LV) cables, HV cables, instrument cables, telecommunication cables, instrumentation tubes, instrument tubing fittings and clamps for most operational conditions and geographical areas.

It does not cover fibre optic cables, subsea cables, heat tracing cables or other special cables such as vendor supply cables or interconnection cables.

It should be noted that the standards address design and fabrication, but excludes installation of the cables.

The application of this RP is limited to instrument tubes up to two (2) inches in outer diameter. It does not cover subsea instrumentation tubes, fittings or clamps. The following services are covered for instrument tubes:

— hydrocarbon (liquid and gas)

— hydraulic oil

— instrument air

— sea water

— fresh water.

Applicability

This RP covers offshore oil and gas projects involving topsides equipment on any type of production installation, fixed or floating, or drilling unit. The RP should not be applied for systems covered by class rules. This RP shall not be applied to cables complying with IEEE or UL requirements, as these are different or additional requirements.
