This service specification describes DNV GL's verification services for free-fall lifeboats during design, testing and construction, in particular within the three following safety-critical elements to assess conformity to DNVGL-ST-E406:

— structural safety, i.e. safety of hull with seats and their support and canopy against structural failure

— human safety, i.e. safety with respect to accelerations and injury to the human body, and air quality

— headway, i.e. sufficient forward speed to avoid collision with the host platform.
