INTRODUCTION

This section is a guide to manufacturers of passive electronic products for the preparation and submission of outline drawings of packages (here-in-after referred to as outlines) for outline registration.

PURPOSE OF OUTLINES

An outline should show all the dimensional and geometrical characteristics of a package needed to assure mechanical interchangeability with all other packages conforming to the same outline. An outline should serve a package user by specifying the general package configuration; the size, location, and number designation of terminals; the space required by the package; the size and location of surfaces for mounting; body size for mechanical handling; etc.
