While this document relates to a previous version of ANSI/IESNA RP-8-83 (reaffirmed in 1993), the valuable information on a luminaire light distribution classification system is still valid in helping the designer narrow down the choice of luminaires for a given roadway lighting project. The discussion centers on the various factors which lighting designers (for new installations) and maintenance managers (for replacement luminaires) should consider when specifying roadway luminaires. This TM does NOT present a new luminaire light distribution classification system.
