This monograph summarizes storage requirements for medical gas cylinders, including bulk tank storage, in health care occupancies. Because it is anticipated that both the Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will adopt the 2012 edition of NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code, this monograph references NFPA 99-2012 for medical gas cylinder storage requirements.
Note: As of June 2012, CMS and the Joint Commission still require compliance with the 1999 edition of NFPA 99: Standard for Health Care Facilities because this is the edition cited by NFPA 101-2000: Life Safety Code®, the edition of that code CMS requires hospitals to follow.
