The document specifies the Interoperability among ATM validation platforms down to the level of detail that is required for the implementation and running of common exercises on existing platforms whilst taking into account requirements for expectable future verification, assessment, validation and training purposes needs.
The scope of the document currently covers:
A common architecture based on the combination of widely adopted integration patterns, offering loose coupling between participating systems while ensuring strong cohesion and minimal disruption,
A common communication language based on a standardized, object-oriented, extensible modelling of air-ground, ground-ground and air-air ATM communications,
A common definition of the environment based on shared references regarding elements constituting the context of a cross-simulator / cross-platform exercise simulation (simulated logical time, airspace, airport infrastructure),
A common collaboration model supporting the development and execution of a cross-organization exercise throughout its lifecycle, from the initial identification of the objectives and its execution down to the analysis of the outcomes and the capitalization of the results.
This standard does not address the following topics:
The internal description of the ATM platforms,
The infrastructure of the ATM validation platforms,
The interoperability required by operational use of ATM systems,
The traceability to the operational concepts that are investigated,
The description of the processes, activities and checklists to achieve interoperability,
The interoperability of analytical tools.
The current release of this document does not address:
The interoperability of voice communication systems,
The specific needs of ATM training platforms (the training platforms are part of the scope of this document but additional user requirements could affect the current release of the standard).
These specific topics will be covered in a next release of the standard.
PURPOSE
Interoperability is defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as "the ability of two or more systems or components to exchange information and to use the information that has been exchanged." It should be added that the systems in question are not necessarily homogeneous. The purpose of the present document is to define a standard addressing the interoperability aspects of ATM Validation Platforms.
