Scope of this Document
This document comprises a MASPS for RTOSs, optionally augmented with visual tracking-based object motion indications, automatic PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) object-following functionality, and non-optical surveillance sensors. It is thus applicable to four main building blocks:
(1) Optical System
This MASPS specifies the end-to-end performance of the RTOS comprising the whole “glass-to-glass” chain from the optical sensor(s) to the Optical Sensor Presentation (OSP) (that is, a Visual Presentation that displays optical sensor video images without object overlays; see §1.5.5). It is applicable to all optical sensor configurations that could be used to provide the operator with aerodrome visual surveillance information. The specific configuration of the optical system is a matter for individual implementations.
(2) Visual Tracking (optional)
Moving objects can optionally be augmented by overlaying information onto the OSP video images (typically a box-shaped symbol) to support operator situational awareness. This MASPS specifies the end-to-end performance of such an optical sensor-based Visual Tracking function comprising the whole chain from the optical sensor(s) to the OSP, which then becomes an Augmented OSP.
(3) PTZ Object Following (optional)
A conventional tower must be equipped with binoculars to provide a close-up view of objects. This requirement is satisfied in an RTOS by a mandatory Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera function. Additionally, an optional PTZ Object Following Function may be implemented to automatically orientate the PTZ camera to keep a targeted moving object near the centre of its view. This MASPS specifies the end-to-end performance of such a PTZ Object Following function comprising the whole chain from the optical sensor(s) to the Visual Presentation.
(4) Non-Optical Surveillance Sensors (optional)
The OSP can optionally be augmented by the integration of information from non-optical Surveillance Sensors. This MASPS addresses operational considerations on the integration of surveillance information from non-optical sensors into the OSP and its optical sensor-associated functions such as PTZ Object Following.
