PURPOSE OF GEN-SUR SPR VOLUME 2
This GEN-SUR SPR Volume 2 provides the details on its operational performance and safety assessments that led to the specification of the minimum requirements on the Ground ATC SUR Function in Volume 1. This is complemented by supplementary assessment material as well as guidance on the application of the GEN-SUR SPR in a number of areas.
Overall, the purpose of GEN-SUR SPR Volume 2 is to:
• Provide guidance to ANSPs and system manufacturers in the understanding of the GEN-SUR assessment approach;
• Support the local safety case development by establishing evidence for those safety arguments that refer to the GEN-SUR SPR (as further supported through Volume 3);
• Introduce candidate requirements at ATC SUR sub-function level;
• Capture the knowledge and insight that was built up through the conduct of the detailed safety and performance assessments;
• Provide sufficient information and guidance to minimise the risks of incorrectly interpreting the GEN-SUR requirements, in particular at assessment and design assurance demonstration level;
• Establish the basis for (continued) verification of the GEN-SUR requirements and for the assessment of other ATC service types than those identified as reference ones in this document.
To this effect, this Main Body forms the entry point to the SPR assessment domain. More specifically, the objective of this Main Body is to:
• Further introduce the GEN-SUR assessment approach, i.e. in addition to related Volume 1 discussions in its Chapters 1 and 2;
• List the GEN-SUR functional requirements, as established in Appendix B;
• List the GEN-SUR safety and performance objectives, as established in Appendix C through to Appendix E;
• List the candidate requirements, i.e. for the additional five ATC service types as identified in this Volume 2 and at ATC SUR sub-function level; and to
• Provide traceability information in support of the development of local safety case material. This includes the listing of the GEN-SUR assumptions as collected from the various assessment related Appendices and a traceability matrix between the Volume 1 ‘SPR’ requirements and Volume 2 ‘SPO’ objectives. A similar list is also provided for the candidate requirements.
Within its Appendices, the objective of the GEN-SUR SPR Volume 2 is to:
• Provide the details of the GEN-SUR performance and safety assessments, including in terms of their scope, models, methods, results and verifications; and to
• Provide guidance on the application of the GEN-SUR SPR at local level.
Throughout this Volume 2, reference is made to the conventions established in Volume 1. This includes the use of the Volume 1 glossary terms and their presentation in italics.
