INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE OF THE DOCUMENT
This document provides the Minimum Aviation System Performance Standard for the implementation of an Automation and Emergency Recovery (A&ER) capability for a fixed-wing Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) operating in non-segregated airspace and aircraft ground manoeuvring areas. The document has been prepared in accordance with the “Guide to the drafting of EUROCAE documents” [Ref 01]. The A&ER capability and its operational context are fully defined in the corresponding Operational Services and Environment Definition (OSED) document [Annex A].
This document is intended to provide globally recognised allocations for performance within the functions of a generic A&ER capability (i.e. both the airborne and the ground-based components of the capability as depicted in FIGURE 1.1) in order to ensure a harmonised approach worldwide leading to enhanced global safety.
The requirements contained in this document are those considered necessary to provide adequate assurance that the appropriate functions of the A&ER capability, when operating together, in conjunction with other defined systems defined herein, will perform their intended functions in an acceptably safe manner during the operations and within the operational context that are defined in the OSED.
All the safety and performance related assessments are to be found in annexes to this document, whilst the main body of the document presents requirements resulting from the consolidation of the operational requirements contained within the OSED, Annex A together with the safety and performance requirements created as a result of the assessments. This consolidation process retains the most stringent requirement for those attributes or parameters identified by both the safety and performance assessments. The main body of the document also provides traceability of those requirements back to the corresponding assessments.
It should be noted that MASPS documents are also, upon occasion, used by regulatory authorities in advisory material intended to support approvals and implementation of the capability. States or regions implementing a system or application different from that specified in the OSED must take into account those differences in the operations or environment in supporting analyses.
This document was developed in collaboration with the project “Enhanced RPAS Automation (ERA)”, sponsored by the European Defence Agency (EDA).
