This specification contains the technical requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration for a modular, fiber optic transmission system for radar information originating at Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR) sensor sites. This transmission system will transmit and receive radar video and trigger signals, azimuth reference pulses, and azimuth change pulses. At the sensor site, the radar videos and trigger signals will be interfaced to the fiber optic transmitter by (1) using the baseband output of an RM 107 radar multiplexer (combiner) or (2) using conditioning units specified by FAA-E-2809, Item 1. At the indicator site, the fiber optic receiver will interface with (1) the baseband input of an RM 107 radar demultiplexer (separator); or (2) units specified by FAA-E-2809, Item 2 to restore the signals to preconditioned levels. Provisions are included for system alarm indications and automatic switching of designated channel modules to standby units. This equipment is not intended for use with the ASR-9. The RM 107 and items 1 and 2 of FAA-E-2809 are Government furnished equipment.
