These specifications define the performance requirements for adhesives which are pre-applied to the threads of any externally threaded fastener. The applied adhesive shall be dry to the touch and become activated only when the coated fastener is inserted into a threaded hole or mating fastener where it then hardens to enhance resistance to loosening. No specific class or type of adhesive (anaerobic, epoxy, microencapsulated, etc.) is intended for exclusive use in this specification, but any composition which will meet the performance requirements below will be considered for approval.
