The scope of this General Specification covers all kind of head restraints and their general requirements as well as tests.

Note: This General Specification is to be applicable as from model year 1997. Precedingmodel years with reference to GME 01102.

Initial Sample Approval. The initial sample approval covers the determination of the height adjustment effort, the tilt adjustment moment and pendulum impact resistance.

Routine Quality Control. The routine quality control covers the determination of the height adjustment effort and the tilt adjustment moment.

Determination of the removal forces of front seat back head restrains and rear back head restraints.

Determination of the adjustment force of the rear back middle head restraint.

Testing of additional requirements for

• turn released head restraints

• push-button released head restraints

Testing of snap rods for head restraints by bend testing.

Testing of the legal requirements which shall be fulfilled.

Additional requirements. 

Mission / Theme. Not applicable.

Classification. Beside basic head restraints, this General Specification describes two additional kinds of head restraints.

Foldable Head Restraint Back Rest. For seat integrated head restraints the foldable head restraint back rest makes it unnecessary to remove it before fold down rear back. In addition the visibility can be improved by fold down the head restraint.

Turn Released Head Restraint. The turn released head restraint can only be released by tilting the head restraint (in driving direction) for making a height adjustment.
