1.1 Scope.

This document outlines the technical specifications required for the external cable shift system of manual transmissions. This specification applies to all shift knobs, gear shift mechanism, shift cables and shift lever boots (where applicable). Stipulation of the functional and durability require-ments placed on gearshift mechanisms is necessary in order to ensure the quality and service lifetime of the parts supplied. The requirements contained in this specification reflect those minimum values which are necessary in order to be able to carry out regular evaluation of conformity with design engineering targets. These requirements are to be looked up on as being in addition to normal testing, dimensional inspections, and in process testing.
