Introduction
Note: Nothing in this standard supercedes applicable laws and regulations.
Note: In the event of a conflict between the English and the domestic language, the English language shall take precedence.
Purpose. This test is to verify the capability of a vehicle with automatic transmission to perform emergency stops on critical road surfaces without stalling the engine.
Foreword. High negative gradients of wheel speeds during emergency stops can lead to engine stall due to the torque converter clutch not being able to release in time. Critical wheel speed gradients can occur when decelerating the vehicle strongly on high friction coefficient surfaces (e.g. dry asphalt) or when both wheels of the driven axle are brought close to locking quickly on loose or slippery surfaces.
Applicability. Relates to vehicles with automatic transmissions.
