1.1 Scope

Anti lock braking systems (ABS) are used in vehicles to ensure stability and optimize braking performance. They are part of the brake system. Traction control systems (TCS) are used in vehicles to ensure stability and optimum traction perform-ance. This specification defines the general requirements for all anti lock braking systems. All ABS have some common characteristics and shall fulfill some global requirements derived from the vehicle environment. This specification defines also the general require-ments for TCS systems that use brake and/or en-gine intervention for control of the vehicles traction. This specification is only applicable for TCS systems included in ABS systems.
