Material.

This specification applies to welding of the following materials: GMW2M-ST-S, GMW3032M-ST-S, QS 100700, QS 101000, QS 101500, QS 1017T0, QS 102200, QS 102500, QS 131500, QS 131700 low alloyed heat treatable steel (e.g. 22MnB5 or equivalent, standardised, weldable grades) and weldable malleable cast irons QS 11MG55, QS 11MG65, QS 11MW38 or equivalent standardized materials. Furthermore this test specification applies to the standardized stainless steels:

To EN 10088-2:

X6Cr17, Material No. 1.4016,

X6CrMo17-1, Material No. 1.4113,

X5CrNi18-10, Material No. 1.4301

X3CrTi17, Material No. 1.4510

X3CrNb17, Material No. 1.4511

X2CrTi12, Material No. 1.4512

X6CrNiTi18-10, Material No. 1.4541

X6CrNiNb18-10, Material No. 1.4550

as well as to other standardized stainless steels (e.g. X12CrNiTi18-9, Material No. 1.4878, X15CrNiSi20-12, Material No. 1.4828 both to SEW 470, used in the area of the exhaust system).

In special cases it is necessary to weld steels with a higher C-content or greater tendency to harden than laid down in this specification. This type of welding is permissible, if the weld lies within areas where there are no high mechanical stresses. For these welds the requirements of this specification apply with the exception that the permissible hardness increment is to be determined.

Joints of this type require careful discussion by Engineering, Production Planning and ITDC Central Laboratories as well as for release prior to start of production per ITDC Central Laboratories.

Pressure welds on metallically coated thin sheets shall also meet the requirements of this specification. The following are acceptable as coatings: lead, zinc, copper, aluminium and their alloys with a coating thickness of 15 μm max. (zinc-plated) respectively 50 μm max. (aluminised) on one or both sides as well as weld paint and zinc dust paint with coating thicknesses on the weld joint of 40 μm max.

Welds on components with organic or non-metallic coatings are not covered by this specification.
