This standard shall be classified into 9 classes according to substrate and does not cover appearance requirements or processing parameters.
A 336: Normally applicable to exterior cat parts having a corrodible substrate, such as unplated cold rolled steel, precoated steel, die cast zinc, aluminum or magnesium.
A 168: Normally applicable to chassis suspension components having steel substrates.
A 96: Normally applicable to exterior car parts having a bright substrate such as buffed stainless steel, chromium plated metal or plastic and anodized aluminum.
A 0: Normally applicable to exterior car parts having plastic or other nonmetallic substrates.
B 336: Normally applicable to chassis and/or under hood parts.
B 168: Normally applicable to chassis and/or under hood parts.
B 96: Normally applicable to chassis and/or under hood parts.
C 24: Normally applicable to interior car parts having metallic substrate.
C 0: Normally applicable to interior car parts having plastic or other non-metallic substrates.
PURPOSE
This standard covers laboratory test requirements of paint finishes as commonly used for automobile components.
