Material Description.

This specification describes a single component, heat cured, pumpable, structural adhesive suitable for closure panel hem flange bonding. This material shall be used in the Body Shop or Fabrication Plant, on "oily metal", and cure in the heat of the Paint Bake Ovens.

Applicability.

This adhesive material is intended for use in closure hem flange bonding.

Remarks.

This material shall incorporate 3% (by volume) solid glass beads. These beads shall be 0.2 mm diameter (nominal), and of sufficient compressive strength to resist fracture in the closure hemming process. The glass beads act as a bond-line spacer to provide a uniform thickness of adhesive within the hem of the assembly. The glass beads also are partially imbedded into the inner and outer panel substrates providing some amount of strength to retain the relationship of the inner panel to the outer panel prior to and during cure of the adhesive in the paint ovens.

The adhesive shall be compatible with production process oils, production phosphate, Electrocoat (E-coat), top coat processes and production dispensing systems.
