This specification is intended to cover structural adhesive bonding systems used by Tier Suppliers to bond automotive assemblies.

Material Description. The adhesive system(s) described by this specification shall be suitable for structural bonding of sheet molding compounds (SMC), and other fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) composite substrates to themselves, or to "primed" metal (i.e., SMC outer panel to SMC inner panel, or SMC outer to E-Coated metallic inner or E-Coated reinforcements).

These adhesives may be single or multiple component systems.

Applicability. These systems shall be compatible with production systems, including paint, and cannot be adversely affected by paint oven temperatures reaching 130 °C. In some cases, where the bonded assemblies will be subjected to E-Coat operations, the systems cannot be adversely affected by oven temperatures reaching 204 °C.
