1 SCOPE.

This specification covers the performance and qualification requirements for exterior solventbome high solids basecoat/clearcoat enamel systems. Nominal volume solids as sprayed are 37% for basecoat and 54% for clearcoat. Basecoats used in the system covered by this specification are sufficiently flexible to be universally used on both flexible and rigid substrates and are covered as components under specification 9984505. The clearcoats however, are suitable for use on rigid or semi-rigid substrates only and are covered as components under specification 9984472. The basecoat/ clearcoat enamel is part of the total paint system which must meet Corporate goals for appearance and durability, and be capable of meeting specific plant solvent emissions (VOC) restrictions.
