Material Description.

A pressure sensitive tape having a thin flexible crepe paper backing, which is commonly referred to as general purpose masking tape.

General.

The adhesive shall cause the tape to adhere immediately and firmly to clean, dry surfaces to which the tape is generally applied during masking operations without wrinkling, curling, breaking, or lifting. The tape, when applied over a painted surface, shall not strip off or remove any portion of the underlying paint coating upon removal, when such coating has been applied according to the accepted commercial practice. There shall be no separation of the adhesive from the backing upon unwinding the rolls or upon removal from metal lacquer, enamel, or painted surfaces after application of finishing materials such as is commercially encountered in the masking field utilizing this product. There shall be no liner over the adhesive. When used for masking painting operations, finishing materials shall not penetrate the paper sufficiently to have a deleterious effect on the adhesives.
