This standard details the properties and requirements of a solvent-based adhesion promoter that is used to improve the adhesive bonding characteristics of a pressure-sensitive adhesive on low surface energy substrates.
Material Description.
This adhesion promoter is an air-dry system (solvent-borne) than can be applied with a pressurized flow gun, brush, or similar applicator. It is designed for use on Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO), Polypropylene (PP), Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), and other olefin polymers. It can also be used to improve adhesion on terpolymers (e.g., Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA), Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)), Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) polyamides, polyesters, and other miscellaneous polymer substrates. It is applied in a thin, uniform coat on the surface to be activated.
Type I.
Adhesion promoter with added ultraviolet (UV) trace to easily verify application.
Type II.
Adhesion promoter with no UV trace.
Symbols.
Not applicable.
Applicability.
Moldings, inserts, and other components made of the materials described in 1.1.
Remarks.
The application surface must be clean, dry, and free of foreign matter. Contaminated surfaces should be cleaned with a dry, untreated, lint-free cloth with alcohol wipe. Tape should be applied within 1 h for best results.
