This specification describe the basic requirements of a dry film lubricant coating to be used on fasteners to provide low and consistent prevailing drive torque during assembly.

Material Description. The material to this specification covers thermosetting resin bonded dry film lubricant coating. This coating process does not generate hydrogen, however, pretreatment processes i.e., acid pickling could cause hydrogen absorption. Parts with specified hardness HRC 39 and higher shall not be acid cleaned.

Typical Application. Typically used on stainless steel exhaust system studs and buts. If applied to carbon / alloy steel fasteners, this coating should be used in conjunction with a Zn phosphate pre-treatment, GMW3179 Code D.
