This specification covers the requirements of a protective back coating system used to seal and protect vacuum deposited metallic coatings and GM261M decorative coatings (paint, or hot stamped foils) applied to the second surface of acrylic ornamentation mounted on-surface, and not protected by mounting in a bezel. The backcoating must be applied within 2 h of the vacuum metallization process. This backcoating is the only approved back coating that can provide the level of protection for an on-surface mounted ornament from aggressive cleaning/protectant materials as might be encountered during normal customer use.
