This specification covers the basic performance requirements for a preapplied expanding sealant for threaded fasteners.

Material Description. The preapplied sealant is applied in liquid form onto a designated area of the fastener thread and cured. After installation and tightening of the fastener, the coating material expands 20 to 30% to provide superior sealing function for the joint. This sealant also provides thread locking properties.

Typical Applications. This coating is suitable for threaded plugs and other applications where sealing of coolant or motor oil in the threaded joint is critical.

Remarks. This material is validated in normal engine temperatures (-40 °C to 150 °C) applications against coolant and engine oil. Applications requiring higher temperatures, pressures, or sealing other fluids will require extra validation.
