This specification covers the materials and processing required to chromium plate aluminum wheels and trim. Plating durability requirements are also included. This specification applies for all cast and forged wheels and could also be used for some metallic trim on wheels.
Parts produced to meet these requirements have been validated to meet 3 to 5 years of equivalent/accelerated corrosion testing on durability vehicles at GM's Milford Proving Grounds, and to meet a 3-years field warranty for cosmetic corrosion.
