This specification coven the part perfor-mance, durability and adhesion requirements of plastic/metal laminated moldings. The laminate shall be suitable for interior or exterior applications.
NOTE: A laminate system (as defined in this specification) includes assemblies using press bonding techniques to adhere previously extruded or injection molded thermoplastic deco-rative components to the metal substrate.
Parts covered by this specification shall be designated as follows:
Type I — Interior Applications
Type II — Exterior Applications
The extruded or injection molded thermoplastic materi-als used in the laminate system must meet the durability requirements of GM7451M for Type I applications or GM7452M for Type II applications
Plastic films, film laminates and film/plastic laminates must meet the requirements of GM3619M. When laminated to metal in the sheet stock form, the sheet stock must meet the requirements of GM7453M.
Finished pans may be topcoated with a clear or pigmented organic coating to obtain the required appearance or durability. The requirements for the topcoat appearance and performance must be indicated on the engineering drawing.
The performance requirement for any inserts, weather-strips, emblems, etc. bonded to the molding shall be designat-ed on the engineering drawing.
