This specification covers a friable anti-friction coating produced on ferrous metal by reaction of component surfaces with bath chemicals. The Insoluble manganese iron phosphate film may be impregnated with oil, or another supplemental coating, and promotes rapid break-in of moving parts without scoring or scuffing, and provides minimal corrosion resistance.
